FCA enlists Mr Motivator and Rachel Riley for PPI campaign

Countdown presenter and all round maths boffin Rachel Riley said: “Life can often feel overwhelming with the number of things we need to do, so it’s easy to understand why many of us find it difficult to tame those to-do-lists. This is especially true when it comes to tasks that we don’t consider urgent, feel like too much of a hassle or just sound a bit boring, like checking whether you’ve been mis-sold PPI.”

The FCA has also called up 1990s exercise enthusiast Mr Motivator to encourage people to check whether they can make a PPI claim.

Mr Motivator was chosen because of his connections with the 1990s when the vast majority of PPI misselling took place.

Mr Motivator, real name Derrick Errol Evans, is a Jamaican-born British exercise instructor.

He became a household name in the 1990s for his appearances on UK TV wearing tight, colourful spandex outfits.

The total sum for PPI misselling claims could reach £44.2bn, according to figures from think tank New City Agenda.
The figure, which takes into account the billions already paid out as well as provisions for payments over the next year and a half, has mounted after the banks underestimated the amount people would claim.
